Tara Kenny, Bluedot’s Creative Director couldn’t wait to tell us about the Saving Food Program’s Too Good To Go program, which offers consumers the chance to purchase less attractive produce for lower prices — which helps reduce food waste. “And they have an app!” she says. “You can log in and check your area for participating stores and restaurants that will give you a bag of food for crazy discounted prices. Arrange a pick up time, and get a bag of food.
There weren’t any participants on Martha’s Vineyard, where Tara lives, but she reported, “When I punch in Hyannis (no participating stores on MV yet), Panera has 4 surprise bags for $4.99. Proceeds are donated to “Family Food Connections in Jamaica Plain.”
Tara specifically likes this program, she says, “because it can potentially serve the middle-ground folks who may not qualify for food banks, or who are too proud to go to one. And, a bonus, the program gives the proceeds back to a food charity.”
